Meadowvale Minor Hockey Association
Coaching
Staff / Volunteer Registration
In prior years, we asked
that you go on-line to register yourself and your assistants.
Not so in 2009/2010. This year, we’ll be doing it for you.
(Next year, not sure.)
Ideally, you’ll identify
yourself and your staff (Head Coach, 2 Assistant Coaches, 1
Manager, and 1 Trainer, assuming the Trainer is properly
certified), we’ll find you in the Hockey Canada Registration (HCR)
database, we’ll register you, and we’ll assign you to your
respective team(s).
In order to be properly
“register-able”, we’ll need…
-
Your name
-
Your date of birth
-
A valid
Police
Check
-
Your proof of
Speak Out
(Harassment & Abuse) certification **
-
A photo (head-shot) of yourself
-
Evidence that at least one coaching staff member has
either appropriate NCCP “Coach Level” certification.
If you’ve been an MHL
Coach/Volunteer in the past, this stuff should all be on file.
Unfortunately, we’ve found that all the HCR files aren’t
complete. (We don’t really know why, but we’re working to fix
them.)
Once we’ve been able to
verify all of the above, you’ll be issued an MHL Pass, which
will allow you free admission to MHL games AND allow you to work
the bench for MHL games. This Pass is proof that your
“credentials” have been checked and that you’re authorized to be
behind the bench. Please have your Pass with you at all times.
In some cases (ie: new
coaches/volunteers who are still trying to “collect” the above
documents), a temporary Pass (good to Dec 15) will be granted.
When you complete the missing steps, please let us know and
we’ll update your profile.
Please note that free
admission will NOT be granted without a Pass. Further, once
convening has ended, if you don’t have a Pass, you may be asked
by a Referee to leave the bench. Please don’t give our Referees
(or Ticket Staff) any grief… it reflects badly on Meadowvale.
If you have a problem, please contact the Registrar at
registrar@meadowvalehockey.com and we’ll endeavor to help
you.
Police Check:
To coach/volunteer in
the MHL, we ask that everyone submit a current Police Check.
Police Checks are filed at the MHL Office (confidentially) and
are good for 4 years of uninterrupted volunteer service.
For the 2009/10 season,
there are 3 ways of obtaining a Police Check…
1 – Complete the
MHL/Peel Police-Approved Form (which can be obtained from the
President’s mail slot in the Coach Mailbox at Meadowvale Arena),
take it to the Peel Police, and 8-10 weeks later, you’ll be
mailed your Police Check. This service is free.
2 – Go to the Peel
Police, fill out their form, pay $45, and they’ll provide your
Police Check then and there.
3 – Go to the MHL
website (www.hockey.on.ca)
and follow the link to
MyBackCheck.com. This is a new, on-line
service that, for $25 ($39 if you don’t do it through MHL) will
provide you an electronic Police Check within 1-2 days.
Speak Out Certification:
Speak Out Certification,
formerly known as Harassment & Abuse Certification, is obtained
by way of a 3-hour seminar put on by MHL, GTHL, OMHA, or other
hockey governing bodies. Upon completion, you’ll be logged into
the Hockey Canada database. (In the past, you were given a
number and a card.) You only have to take this training once
and the cost (around $35) is, at this time, reimbursed by
Meadowvale Hockey.
Note that this
certification can also be obtained through the more detailed IP
or Coach Level certification courses.
