    If you will be coaching your own child (or a spouse or relative’s child), please note: It is recommended that you choose to coach at a level where your child will be among the top 50% of players on the team. This tends to maximize the experience for the child, and minimize the discontent that often surfaces when the child of the coach is near the bottom of the team’s skill pool. It is the MMHA’s policy to place the most qualified coaches available with the highest level teams.

    'A' must have one Team Official qualified in the Hockey Canada Training Program (HTCP). To cover those situations where a Team's Trainer is new to the MHL, the effective date for such certification will be the day following the date of the Final Convening Meeting in each Season. (i.e.: The first Monday of November). It is strongly recommended that all other teams have a certified Trainer registered to the team staff.

    Note that the Head Coach and Trainer can not be the same person. Also an Arena pass will not be granted to a Trainer without a valid HTCP number.

    2) All Team Officials must be certified in the Hockey Canada Harassment & Abuse ("Speak Out") Program. New Team Officials have until Dec 1 of each season to get certification.

    The MMHA and MHL requires that all 'A' Head Coaches have National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP CBET Development Certification, Speak Out Certification.

    E. Coaches' Responsibility Agreement

    All Coaches must conduct themselves in a professional and upstanding manner not unbecoming that of a Minor Hockey Official.

    Coaches are responsible for complete oversight and operation of the team but must not be one of the minimum two signing authorities for the team bank account.

    All team fund raising events are subject to board approval.

    Arena Passes are the property of the Meadowvale Hockey Association and the Mississauga Hockey League and may be revoked at any time for behaviour deemed inappropriate.

    Coaches MUST read the MHL Rule Book and to make every effort to understand its contents. Questions are encouraged and should be directed to your particular MMHA Executive.

    It is the Head Coach’s responsibility to ensure the submission of a Team Budget and a Year End Financial Statement if any external activities are planned. The Team’s initial Budget must be forwarded to all team members, the Mohawks Director and the VP of Operations by October 15th. An updated interim budget must be submitted to all team members and the previously mentioned board members by December 15th. Failure to comply will result in the loss of any external privileges. The team’s Year End Financial Statement must be forwarded to all team members and the previously mentioned board members by midnight April 15. Failure to comply will be the loss of coaching privileges.

    The Mississauga Hockey League and the MMHA require that all players be given equitable playing opportunity and ice time. All members of a team’s coaching staff must adhere to this fundamental principle and abide by all of the regulations stipulated in the MMHA Constitution and By-Laws.

    Choice of Coaches

    The MMHA’s purpose is to provide an environment that allows each player to develop to his or her fullest potential. Coach selection is critical to this goal. Coaches are chosen by the MMHA Coach Selection Committee based on a number of factors including experience, training, certification, player needs, parent evaluations, attitude, enthusiasm, dedication, history, and MMHA needs.
